Fine Arts
There are many extra curricular offerings in the fine arts such as The Art Club, Calligraphy Club, Chorus, Theater (school plays) Film Club and Dance Club. In addition, there are many extra curricular art opportunities with The Yearbook, The Edmund Eagle (school newspaper) and The Equinox (school literary magazine).
Each year we offer two art scholarships of $2,000 each for deserving students. Click here for more information.
Art
Studio Art, usually taken in Freshman year, is the most common way to satisfy the Art requirement at St. Edmund. It is a one semester course and is worth ½ credit. Generally, most Sophomores do not take any art courses with the exception of Sequential Art Students (see below). There are many elective choices open to Juniors and Seniors. Be sure to note prerequisites for any art course you may wish to take. Due to class size limitations or scheduling difficulties, not all art courses can be taken by everyone.
Sequential Art Program
For a few select students with parental approval, an art sequence may be chosen starting in the fall of sophomore year. A Sequential Art student (SAPPIE) is required to take at least seven semesters of art in order to graduate with formal recognition. After passing Studio Art (7010), a Sequential Art student would be required to follow this path:
-
Sophomore Year: Drawing 7030 is taken in the fall and Design 7020 is taken in the spring.
-
Junior Year: Art History 7440 is taken in the fall and College Art 7033 is taken in the spring.
-
Senior Year: Two of the following are required: Painting, Desktop Publishing and Design, Wood Workshop, Art Class Assistant or Intro to Architecture. If taking AP Art (full year) no other art course would be required.
Please be advised that in order to take this many art courses, the sequential art student would be sacrificing the opportunity to take some other elective courses and some free periods in Junior and Senior year. See your guidance counselor for specifics.
