Science

The goal of the science department is to provide a basic understanding of the various branches of science, as well as motivate our students into furthering their intrigue towards science. We provide a sample of different sciences, like earth science, living environment, and chemistry, early in their careers. This background usually leads to questions about our more interesting and challenging electives like, AP biology, AP chemistry, and forensics.

We have recently constructed three new, state-of-art, science labs which are available to view (link to science lab completed photo gallery). These investments have allowed us as a school to take the necessary steps forward in an ever-advancing scientific world. They have enhanced our teaching and the student's ability to grasp and understand difficult topics. We hope that they also will prepare students for college style labs, if they choose science as their concentration in college.

Our faculty members have been teaching science for many years. They are very dedicated and have devoted themselves to teaching your children their subject matter and preparing them for the Regents exams. Peer tutoring, Science Club, and after school help with a teacher are some of the tools available that will enable your son/daughter to reach the success they strive for.

Regents Requirements

Students at St. Edmund Prep must pass one science regent with a 65 or higher in order to receive a diploma at the end of their four years. If they strive for an advanced regents diploma, which we encourage them to do, they must pass either the earth science regents or living environment regents and one other science regent. These standards are in place to motivate our students to work at the highest at the possible level.
