Student Services
School Nurse
The nurse's office is located on the third floor. She is available for medical counseling and for consultations for students who become ill during the school day. All conversations are held within the bounds of professional confidence.
Any student who becomes ill during the school day must inform his/her classroom teacher immediately before reporting to the Nurse's office. Should this be impossible for any reason, a student who is ill should immediately send a responsible person to the Nurse's office to inform her of the student's illness and whereabouts in the building. Any student who sees another person who appears to be ill should likewise inform the Nurse. Under no circumstances should someone in need of medical attention be left unattended.
Any student who visits the Nurse must obtain a Re-admit slip to his/her class, and must report to that class immediately after receiving this slip, which should be given to the teacher of that class.
Elevator/sneaker passes are issued at the discretion of the School Nurse for no longer than two days without a Doctor’s note. No students may ride the elevator or wear sneakers without the express permission of the Administration.
Guidance Department
St. Edmund Preparatory High School offers full time guidance services, open to all students and parents. Each student is encouraged to introduce himself/herself to a counselor early in the academic year and to avail himself/herself of the many services provided. The purpose of the guidance program is to be of assistance to the students, families and teachers and to assist in making the educational process as effective as possible.
Secondary counseling services include academic counseling, personal counseling, referrals, and coordination with agencies and professionals outside of the school setting, school testing program and career exploration.
Lunch Periods
When students enter the cafeteria book bags are placed at their table. No pocketbooks, large satchels or any other bags are to be carried by the student to the lunch line. The proctor will give the directive for cleanup. All students are responsible to clear tables after breakfast and lunch. Only one student may be at the phone at one time. All other student must wait within the cafeteria to use the phone. No food or drink may be brought above the cafeteria floor. Students who do this will receive detention.
Lockers
Lockers are provided for the safekeeping of textbooks and other personal property. Lockers are to be kept neat during the entire school year. Lockers are to be kept locked at all times. Students should never give their combination to any individual. Only a school lock may be used on a student's locker including the gym locker. All others will be clipped by the school custodians. These locks may be purchased in the bookroom at the beginning of the school year. Since lockers are loaned to the student by the school, the school may open and inspect any locker at any time, without the permission of the student.
- Students may go to the locker ONLY upon arrival at school.
- Hall Lockers: first 4 minutes of assigned lunch period.
- Classroom Lockers: during home room.
- Students may go to the locker if they are allowed to leave before the last bell.
All lockers must be maintained in as good condition as when issued or a price will be charged for cleanup.
Bookstore
The bookstore is located in the basement of the school. All school supplies as well gym uniforms and ties are sold in the bookstore.
Lost and Found
All lost articles should be turned into the general office. Books that are turned in as lost and that are not claimed within a reasonable amount of time will be returned to the bookstore. Unclaimed clothing will be given to the poor after a reasonable amount of time.
Insurance
All students are insured for treatment of accidental injury occurring on school grounds, coming to and from school and all athletic activities that the student participates in.
The insurance company is Willis Corroon Corporation of New York. Brochures notifying parents of insurance coverage are sent home the first week in September.
Any student sustaining an injury requiring medical attention must obtain a claim form from the general office, as soon as possible after the injury has occurred. All injuries sustained in school during school hours, or at school sponsored activities must be reported immediately to the teacher in charge. An accident report must be filled out and submitted to the general office.
Fire Drills
A fire drill plan is posted in every classroom and in the cafeteria and the gym. Students should study these plans and become familiar with them. During fire drills absolute silence is demanded of everyone. Each student is responsible for knowing the route to be followed during a fire drill and for exiting the building. Running is never permitted. Once out of the building all students will remain in place until a signal is given to return to the building. The elevator may not be used during a fire drill. Violation of any of the above will be deemed a serious offense and dealt with accordingly.
