National Honor Society

St. Edmund Prep is home to the Aurora Chapter of the National Honor Society.  Membership in the National Honor Society is highly selective, and is based on Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character.  Students who attain the prerequisite GPA for membership in the NHS will be notified about selection procedures in the beginning of their junior year.

The National Honor Society provides service to St. Edmund Prep and the greater community.  Members of the NHS participate in a weekly peer tutoring program within the school, as well as the school’s annual Street Corner Gourmet Stuffing from Heaven project.  The NHS also coordinates an annual Easter Egg Hunt for the lower grades of St. Edmund Elementary School.  In addition to these activities, the NHS holds fundraisers to raise money for Breast Cancer research during October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Other service projects have included cell phone recycling and sending Christmas cards to wounded servicemen and servicewomen.

Requirements for Membership

Junior and Seniors who have a cumulative GPA of 90 or higher will be invited to participate in the NHS application process, which includes completing an information packet and being interviewed by two members of the Faculty Advisory Committee.  The Faculty Advisory Committee makes all decisions regarding membership.  New members and their families are invited to attend the annual Induction Ceremony in October.
