2022 Senior Spotlights
2022 Senior Spotlights
On May 1st, College Acceptance Day, members of the Class of 2022 were invited to share a bit of their story that has led them to graduation day in our Senior Spotlight.
"My IB classes really prepared me for college, specifically IB HOTA with Mrs. McGinnis and Mr. Romano. Not only is the difficulty of the class equivalent to that of college courses, but the upfront approach Mrs. McGinnis and Mr. Romano gave as to how rigorous this course is and what it demands and how this should be expected in college was eye opening. And while they did make it feel like a classroom, they never forgot to start out with friendly banter to engage us as individuals which made my learning and preparation experience even more memorable."
"I am so grateful for the relationships I formed with friends and teachers my past four years at SEP. Everyone that I have met along the way has guided me in the right direction to succeed in life. Being a part of sports and clubs helped me understand the importance of teamwork and family."
"Attending the Emmaus Retreat is something that I was very proud to be a part of at the Prep. It taught me more about myself and how God is involved in my life. I learned how to be a better person for myself and others.
The service experiences like Midnight Run and Summer Outreach have prepared me to continue to give back to others. I hope to be involved in other service experiences in college as well.
Initiating my Care 4 Camo CAS project for the International Baccalaureate program has uniquely prepared me for college because it taught me the importance of giving back and helping people in need. Knowing I wanted to major in nursing in college, this project inspired me by showing me the impact kindness, dedication and compassion have on others
During my time at the Prep, I was privileged enough to be a part of Emmaus LXXI and a senior team leader on Emmaus LXXIII. These experiences have changed my perspective on how I view the world and created a stronger relationship with myself, others, and God. This prepared me for college as I will learn how to be a nurse who has a strong drive to care for others. I will forever be thankful for SEP for providing the greatest gift of the Emmaus program.
SEP has given me the experiences and knowledge that I can use to be successful in the future. My time on the basketball team, the challenges of the classroom, and my involvement in extracurriculars have given me the confidence to go out and make a difference. I am forever grateful for the memories.
I am most proud of having the opportunity to take part in multiple community service activities while at St Edmund Prep. Street Corner Gourmet is an amazingly fulfilling experience, in which I was able to give back to the community. Attending the Midnight Run was an unforgettable experience as well, in which I felt truly gratified as I had the chance to make a difference in many individuals lives. These events, along with others, have truly impacted my life in creating long lasting bonds between me and my peers, which I am forever grateful.
"The International Baccalaureate Program has well prepared me for college level courses. In IB classes, specifically IB Biology, I learned to overcome challenging tasks, manage my time well, and meet deadlines. Mr. M taught our IB Biology class with enthusiasm and treated all of his students like mature adults, assigning rigorous yet doable work after his in-depth biology lesson. Mr. M has influenced me to major and pursue a career in biology."
"I am most proud of the academic success that I achieved here at SEP! Taking classes like AP Government definitely taught me to avoid procrastination, have better time management skills, and to prepare for a heavier workload."
" I am so grateful to my teachers at St. Edmund Prep, who over the past four years have prepared me and guided me in the right direction. Their encouragement has allowed me to believe in myself in order to succeed in life."
"My classes with Mr. Scanlon have prepared me mentally for college and have taught me how to be financially responsible for my next few years in college."
"Every day I've spent at SEP has taught me how to be an independent leader and that nothing is ever impossible. Thank you to everyone who has challenged me to be the best I could be over the last four years."
"During my SEP experience I have made many memories but the most I am most proud of is the people who I became friends with throughout my four years in high school. In the classroom we supported each other, especially in classes like IB English and AP Government. These classes showed me what classes in college can be and how I can prepare for them. I am also proud of the teams I played on. Working together made us more close as a family. "
"I’m most proud of my growth as a person and how much I’ve learned throughout my time at SEP to help mold me for the future."
"Mrs. Vulpis is a teacher that has truly prepared and led me in the right direction for college. Being someone that struggles with anxiety it often makes it difficult to get through class or even the day in general. Mrs. Vulpis would talk me through everything and truly put me before anything going on at that given moment. She allowed me to have a safe space. This made me realize how much I would love to do that with students of my own one day and major in childhood education. Being able to be a role model and a support system for younger children is something I undoubtedly want to do in the future and be able to give back those same feelings of love and support Mrs. Vulpis gave me. "
"During my time at St. Edmund Prep, career day was always something I looked forward to. It was an eye opening experience and it was interesting to look all these different jobs. The New York Police Department always stuck out to me and definitely influenced my choice of schools and my major"
"A particular SEP experience that has uniquely prepared my for college has been the Emmaus Retreat. Going on retreat was definitely the best decision I made throughout my four years. It helped me understand those around me better and understand the kind of person I want to be. It definitely helped me grow into the person I am today. "
"As a student whose first language is not English, I felt very supported at St. Edmund Prep in my study of English, especially in writing my college essay. I am thankful for the support I received in being ready for college."
"Mr. Scanlon's Economics class has uniquely prepared me for college because it taught me how to financially support myself in the future and important life skills. I am most proud of the friendships I made throughout my years at SEP. These friendships will last for years beyond graduation. "
"So many of my classes have taught me important life lessons that will help me as I step into my future. More that just the learning I've done over the past four years, I’m proud of how I have made a name for myself at SEP, not just as Claire’s little sister but I’ve made my own mark on this school as my own person raising money, and participating in different activities"
"A particular SEP experience that has prepared me for college is taking classes to achieve the IB Diploma. Taking all college courses for the past two years has prepared me immensely for the workload I am sure that I will have for the next four years to get my nursing degree. The emphasis that SEP places on extracurriculars and sports outside of school has also given me an idea that it is important to prioritize your happiness, and not just your grades. There is so much more to yourself than just your grades, and SEP has helped me to not only push myself academically, but also go outside of my comfort zone because of this."
"I would have to say with confidence that the Emmaus LXXIV retreat helped prepare me. Senior year has been full of stress and exhaustion. The retreat offered a temporary escape and allowed me to reflect on certain aspects in my life. When I returned it was with a clear mindset and it allowed me to focus on both my near and long term goals. This inevitably helped me decide on my commitment to attend Penn State University as my college of choice. I was able to make the important decision with more clarity and confidence."
"My entire experience at SEP has prepared me for college. The teachers that have dedicated their time and the friends that I have met throughout my four years have prepared me for the next step in my life. I am most proud of how I have grown up in the past four years. I have become independent, learned how to trouble shoot, and express my thoughts and ideas on paper. St. Edmund Prep will always be a part of me and I am proud of my SEP family."
"My time in the IB Programme, especially IB HOTA, with Mrs. McGinnis and Mr. Romano has prepared me for what expect to in college. Not only did I learn to dig deeper but I learned not be afraid of failure the first time around because from that you can learn even greater lessons."
"Thank you to my teachers who through the many ways they challenged me be better have helped me to understand what to really expect in college. I am most proud of all of the events and activities that I have been a part of at SEP, as well as the many friends that I have made along the way. "
"I look back at my season playing JV Basketball and realize how much it prepared me for life beyond SEP. The time spent with my team and my coaches helped me learn the importance of teamwork and how to deal with adversity to reach a common goal."
"I am most proud of how much I've grown and seen things in a different view over the years. I've came across both bad and good scenarios. All of these experiences have led me down a path of making better decisions for myself. I am now at a more mature point in my life and am very happy about that. Being at St. Edmund Prep has made this all possible for me."
"During my experience at SEP my knowledge has exceeded beyond just academics, as I now have a better understanding of good morals, values, and friendships. I know that I am prepared for whatever the future throws at me because of how my teachers pushed me to my limits to deliver the best version of myself not just in the classroom but outside the classroom."
"Being in Mr. CP’s College Marketing class inspired me to study marketing in college. Not only did the class inspire me, but it allowed me to prepare myself for what I should expect in future marketing courses or even careers. College Marketing helped me to find my passion and I plan on using that passion to live a successful life, and make my family proud."
"The rigor and structure of the IB HOTA class has definitely uniquely prepared me for college. Mrs. McGinnis and Mr. Romano created a class atmosphere that was fun and engaging, while also pushing us to further develop our analytical skills. This class challenged me in ways that I never thought possible, pushing me to think on a deeper level, enhancing my critical thinking skills and driving me to work harder. This class has undeniably prepped me for college and has been one of my best experiences at SEP. "
"This years Travel Study trip to the Grand Canyon was a big moment for me, because it was my first time away from home for so long, and it was across the country. Since I'm going away for college, I knew it would be good for me to try being so far away for a week, and once I was there, I was amazed at how at ease I felt. Having such an experience, and being with a group of kids who had also never been across the country without their families, helped me prepare for going away for college. Everyone was in a new environment, and after a while, we became familiar to each other, and I didn't feel so alone anymore. That was when I realized I could get though my first week away at college, because everyone will be in the same new environment, and I knew it would be possible to create our own familiarity, just as I had on my Travel Study trip. "
"The IB Programme has significantly prepared me for college. The rigor of the courses and the dedication needed to succeed has prepared me for the challenges college may face. Additionally, the connections I made with others allowed me to grow as an individual and will last long after graduation."
"The Emmaus retreats that I got to experience really opened my eyes and changed the way that I looked at life. Retreat allowed me to have a better relationship with myself, others and God. I will forever be grateful for this experience and the impact that it had on me will follow me throughout life. I’m so glad that the Prep brought me the best friends that I could ask for. The relationships and memories that I have made "
"I am most proud of the ways that St. Edmund Prep allowed me to express myself, whether that be in the classroom, in the art studio, or in little ways throughout my four years. Designing this year's Walk-a-thon t-shirt was a personal point of pride for me. "
"As a person who went to high school not knowing anyone, and filled so much anxiety, St. Edmund Prep and my fellow classmates made feel that I can fit in. Thanks for letting me be me."
"My time at SEP has been about growth, faith and family. Thank you to all the teachers and students who helped me to grow as a young man, to grow in my faith in God, and to grow together as a SEP Family."
"One of the things I am most proud of participating in is a midnight run experience. This is something that I would have never imagined I would be doing before. It gave me a very unique perspective of being able to do something that makes a difference. As well as the chance to do something for others in need. This was a very interesting experience that I am very glad I had the opportunity to take part in."
"My experience at SEP was a great one. I was very surprised that I would enjoy high school so much. The greatest lesson that I learned is just to be yourself and work your hardest. The most rewarding thing about being at SEP is getting to know all the other students. I made even more friends being a part of SEP's hockey and golf teams. I believe that the next step for me is to pursue a career in baking and pastry. I will focus on learning to bake different desserts. I am so excited for my future and I thank all of my teachers and coaches for helping me gain confidence in myself."
"Throughout my years at St. Edmund Prep teachers and friendships helped lead me to where I am today. Through the Emmaus Retreat and the Street Corner Gourmet my view on life changed in a way that helped me to realize the value of life that will continue to help me on my journey in college. Specifically, my IB classes prepared me for college through lots of dedication and motivation to continue these higher level classes. My IB teachers showed me the real world of college and I am so thankful for that because I feel so prepared and ready for college! "
"Joining the Step Team at SEP allowed me get out of my shell. It prepared me to be more confident in myself and made me the outgoing person I am today. This experience allowed me to find what I love doing and hopefully I’ll be able to continue in college."
"I am so thankful for all the support I've received over the past four years from my family, my teachers, and my classmates to help me get to where I am today. I'm looking forward to the next chapter of my life in college. Thank you St. Edmund Prep!"
"The IB Programme, though challenging, has allowed me to develop the skills necessary for success in college. Learning to write research papers that explored different topics and subject areas has been rewarding as I gained new knowledge from conducting studies on a deeper level. Throughout the writing process, my teachers were always there to guide me and ensure that I was headed on the right track. I gained confidence in my abilities as a student and I know that I can take what I have learned from SEP and apply these lessons to my college experience. I am most proud of myself for stepping out of my comfort zone at SEP and taking on new challenges. Becoming Valedictorian reassured me that hard work pays off."
my years at the Prep, I have noticed that my IB Economics class with Mr. Raphael and IB Hota with Mrs. McGinnis and Mr. Romano shifted the way I think. To succeed in these classes I had to step out of my comfort zone and analyze the information given to me. I did not simply regurgitate facts rather I drew conclusions and evaluated anything that was put in front of me. I am grateful for this because with their patience and wisdom I am no longer afraid of taking control of my learning journey. Initially, I was told that SEP gives you the tools you need to succeed but it is up to you to use them correctly. I pride myself saying that SEP has kept that promise which is why I have come so far. "
"Mrs. Barbieri's New Media Design and Fashion Design classes have specifically prepared me for college and life beyond. Both classes have taught me how to think creatively and work through problems and how to work together with other like minded creators to complete tasks. These skills that I learned have prepared me for college and a career in the film industry."
"I'm proud of how much I changed over these amazing 4 years. My sense of humor has not changed at all, but my acceptance of my flaws and desire to fix them has. Maturity and happiness must coexist to have a good life. That is what this experience taught me, and for that I am forever grateful."
"During my SEP experience, I am most proud of myself for taking the opportunities that I did take. This includes becoming a retreat leader for the Emmaus Team and deciding to become a full IB student. These two experiences have prepared me for college and have helped me become more comfortable with stepping out of my boundaries."
