2025 Senior Spotlights
2025 Senior Spotlights
On May 1st, College Acceptance Day, members of the Class of 2025 were invited to share a bit of their story that has led them to graduation day in our Senior Spotlight.
"The transition from attending a public school to the more hands on and vigorous course work St Edmund provides has profoundly prepared me for college. While it first it hard to get the hang of at first, it prepared me for the college work I will soon be receiving and gave me both the confidence and knowledge to know I will excel in higher education! St Edmund is unique because it teaches you skills you will carry with you even after you leave the school doors." - Amelia Kochergin attending St. John's University majoring in Bio-Medical Sciences
"Both Mr. A Pinnavaia and Mr. C Pinnavaia (AP and CP) have been teachers that have gotten me ready to take the next step. Not just in a classroom setting but outside of it. I was able to go on retreat with both of them, and they showed me that I can become a great leader and that they brought out an attribute in me that I did not know that I had. They are great people to talk to about college basketball with as well." - George Bautz attending Marquette University majoring in Marketing and Supply Chain Management
"St. John's Bread and Life and Street Corner Gourmet prepared me for situations where I would need to help others. These experiences showed me what servant leadership really looks like" - Daniel Lopez attending City Tech CUNY majoring in Civil Engineering
"The community at St. Edmund Prep is like no other. It was the bonds that were made with each other and with our faculty that helped me to realize what I am capable of. I know that these bonds will continue long past our time at St. Edmund Prep." - Vishal Darlington attendingSUNY Maritime College majoring in Mechanical Engineering
"Ms. Hanley's collegiate writing english class has prepared me for college because it has taught me how to organize my work and improve in my writing skills. Her class has also taught me life skills that I will need to use in the future when writing emails, an essay, etc. She made learning very easy because she is understanding and always willing to go the extra step when a student is struggling. " - Dominic Laiso attending Iona University majoring in Sports Communications & Media
"I am most proud of the people whom I can call my closest friends and the memories we have made during our time at St. Edmund Prep. It is the people that have made my years at St. Edmund so special." - Kevin Greenwood attending SUNY Maritime College studying Marine Technology
"I am most proud of the leadership roles I earned and embraced. I served as NHS Secretary, led the Emmaus Retreat, and was Varsity Cheer Captain. Each role challenged me to step outside of my comfort zone and lead by example. As an Emmaus Retreat Leader, I had the chance to support and inspire my classmates on a deeper, spiritual level, which helped me strengthen my empathy. As Cheer Captain, I not only motivated my teammates but also learned the importance of teamwork, resilience, and staying positive even during tough times. These experiences have shaped me into a stronger leader and a more compassionate person. I know the lessons I learned at SEP will stay with me as I begin this next chapter in college." Staci Mamounas attending St. John's University majoring in Law.
"During my SEP experience I am most proud of being a part of our production of Beetlejuice this year. My fellow cast mates and I put in a lot of time and effort for the show and it turned out amazing! It is something I will always be proud of." - Christopher Goldman attending Sacred Heart University majoring in English
"I know I've grown as a person during my time at St. Edmund Prep. Thanks to all my teachers who made that happen." - Bruno DeCaro attending SUNY Maritime College majoring in International Trade
"My Career and Financial Management class really helped me prepare for my future life outside of SEP both in college and for the rest of my life in a financial view. I'm very proud of working hard to earn the Principals List in my 3rd Quarter Senior Year" - Christian DiGiacomo attending CUNY Kingsborough Community College studying Biology
"Four Years - Detention Free! Sorry Mr. Romano" - Valerie Golkov studying Nursing at CUNY Kingsborough Community College
"Ms. Fox has been more than a teacher to me; she’s been a mentor, a guide, and the closest thing to an older sister I ever had. From my first day at Edmunds, she saw potential in me I didn’t even recognize in myself, consistently encouraging me to strive for excellence. Her unwavering support and belief in me have been a constant source of inspiration, shaping me into the person I am today. One moment that stands out vividly is during my time on the Varsity Softball team, we faced a crisis when our pitcher faced an injury and was out for the season. With the team in need, Ms. Fox turned to me. She saw something about my ability and began to patiently teach me how to pitch from scratch. With a lot of work I finally got the hang of it and she soon started calling me her "Prodigy." This experience taught me the power of perseverance, a lesson that will guide me through the challenges of my college years and beyond. Ms. Fox’s faith in me never wavered, even when I doubted myself. Her ability to see the best in me, as well as her support, has left an indelible mark on my life. As I move forward, I will carry Ms. Fox lessons with me, forever grateful for the teacher who became my role model." - Giada Fernandez studying Business-Marketing at Florida Atlantic University
"I am most proud of the relationships I’ve built over the past four years. These connections with classmates, teachers, mentors, and friends have shaped my experience in ways I never expected. Through group projects, shared challenges, and everyday moments, I’ve learned how powerful genuine relationships can be. These bonds have taught me how to collaborate, communicate, and support others, and they've helped me grow both personally and academically. Looking back, it’s not just the classes or grades that stand out—it’s the people and the meaningful connections I’ve made that I’ll carry with me long after graduation." - Kristianna Antoniou attending City Tech CUNY majoring in Mechanical Engineering
"My IB Sports and Exercise Health Science class with Ms. Johnson junior year helped me get ready for college and played a big part in my decision to study Pre-Med Biology. I learned a lot about how the human body works, like the bones, muscles, and energy systems. This made me really interested in medicine and helping people. The IB approach to learning helped me develop important skills that I’ll need in college. It taught me how to manage my time, stay organized, and work through challenging assignments. I also learned how to think critically, do research, and write strong essays." - Hannah Frasier studying Pre-Med Biology at The University of Tampa
"Being recognized with the Creativity and Innovation Mission Award was a special moment for me. Being recognized by your classmates is very rewarding." - David Metrevelli studying Business at Borough of Manhattan Community College/CUNY

I have so many memories with so many wonderful people that I will carry with me forever." - Maeve Hanretty attending Iona University studying Early Childhood Education
"My economics class with Ms. Carr really helped me get ready for college. She didn’t just teach us about money in books, she taught us how to use it in real life. She always asked us where we were going to college and made sure we were thinking about the cost, not just the name of the school. She told us to call colleges and ask for more scholarship money and showed us how to be smart with our choices." - JohnVincent Greco attending SUNY Delhi studying Architecture
"My teachers senior year really helped me to prepare for the tough classes I will be taking when I start to major in Engineering next year. Their support helped me to pass my Regents exams taught me how to be more interactive with others without trying too hard to fit in." - Ava Cherubin studying Engineering at Penn State
"What I’m most proud of during my SEP experience is my decision to take on the challenge of harder classes like IB and AP. These courses weren’t easy, but I wanted to push myself and grow. Even in my senior year, I vouched for a more challenging option when I could have taken a lighter schedule. Through these classes, I learned how to manage my time and stay focused even when the workload felt overwhelming. They also helped me figure out what subjects I enjoy and which ones I don’t connect with as much. That self-awareness has been really important in shaping my goals for the future. I’m proud that I consistently chose to challenge myself and didn’t take the easy way out, because it showed me how much I’m capable of when I commit and work hard." - Jane Lauterborn attending Florida Institute of Technology majoring in Aviation Management and Flight
"Being able to be the master of ceremonies for our music department and play ice hockey here helped fan the flames for my desire to be a sports broadcaster. I want to thank every teacher and faculty member who supported me along the way. I love you all." - Christopher Kouros attending Hofstra University majoring in Sports Media

Thanks, Mrs. McGrath!" - Jenna McMilleon attending Penn State University majoring in Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences

It also taught me how to focus my ideas and communicate them clearly, which helped me make my thinking more focused and structured. I’m so proud of the friendships I built during my time at SEP. I made friends who feel like family, people I know will be in my life for years to come. But over time, I gained confidence in my abilities, especially in science, thanks to supportive teachers like Ms. Higgins. I learned how to ask better questions, manage my time, and stay focused on my goals. I’m proud that I’ve developed a strong work ethic and a clearer vision for my future. SEP didn’t just teach me academics—it helped me believe in myself and realize that I’m capable of becoming a radiologist one day." - Angelina Coletti attending CUNY Kingsborough Community College majoring in Allied Health - Radiologic Technology
"I think Ms. Althea Sullivan and Ms. Serenah Nevarez prepared me immensely for life beyond high school with my inclusion in the Theater program. I have worked in nearly all of the areas during our productions over the years, going from stage crew, to part of the ensemble cast, to a lead role. They taught me the importance of time management, teamwork, and self worth. I learned that no matter how small of an impact you think you have, you are just as important and valuable as anyone else." - Giovanni Livia attending @St. John's University majoring in Illustration.
"Mrs. McGrath’s IB Physics class has prepared me for the rigorous classes I will be taking as an aerospace major. Without her, I wouldn’t be prepared at all for college. "I remember all the way back in freshman year, I found my way into the music room, where I encountered Mr. Gucciardi. I didn't know then that I was bringing in a new aspect into my life in the form of music. Ever since, I joined the Intro to Strings class, followed by playing the cello from freshman to junior year. It's one of the highlights of my high school experience, and I'm glad fate led me to that room." Daniel Jean Baptiste attending St. Francis College Brooklyn majoring in Nursing
"A particular SEP teacher that uniquely prepared me for college is Mr. Gucciardi. He's always instilled within me the idea that if something seems to be too hard that's too bad. And that it will take hard work and dedication to overcome any obstacle that seems too hard. Thank you Mr. G for everything I wouldn't be the person I am today without you. " - Jaden Serame attending Pace University majoring in Accounting
"I am most proud of becoming an Emmaus Team Retreat Leader. I am truly proud of this because it marked a significant step in my personal growth. Not only was I able to grow spiritually, but as a leader. Through this experience, I was able to deepen my Catholic faith by taking time to reflect, pray, and guide others in their own spiritual journeys. I also grew as a person by stepping outside of my comfort zone in leading small groups and supporting others. The bonds I formed with other leaders and retreatants were very meaningful, since they were built on trust, faith, and purpose. Leading the retreat taught me how to be more compassionate, responsible, and confident, and it gave me an opportunity to make a positive impact on others while strengthening my own relationship with God." - Christian Lormil attending Molloy University majoring in Nursing
"Being coached by Mr. Dagnone, Mr. Wiatre and Mr. Romano has prepared me for college and taught me many life lessons. Each coach has taught me to work hard and that nothing is given, but earned. Everyday, they pushed me to be the best version of myself and I can't thank them enough for helping me and giving me their time for the past four years, both on and off of the court. I am most proud of maintaining a 4.0 GPA while playing basketball all year round. " - Matthew Brock attending Coastal Carolina University majoring in Finance

" - Daniel Hickey attending SUNY Oneonta majoring in Criminal Justice
"During my time at St. Edmund Prep, I've greatly developed as a Catholic and overall as a man. It's a privilege to be part of such a loving, tight knit community. My time in drumline, learning from my teacher Mr. G, has also prepared me as he gave me insightful advice regarding perseverance and striving for excellence in everything I do. I am proud of my academic achievements and ability to maintain my rank throughout the years. I am more so proud that I have been in drumline, a school ambassador, and participated in our schools new literary club. Expanding my horizons in all this school has to offer and challenging myself makes me proud to be an SEP Eagle. " Kayla Pozo attending Pace University majoring in Business Management
"During my time at SEP, I’m most proud of being a full IB Diploma Candidate while actively participating in numerous extracurricular activities. Despite the heavy workload, I maintained a high level of academic performance, which showed me just how strong and capable I truly am." - Jordyn Willoughby attending the University of Miami majoring in Broadcast Journalism
"One class that has truly prepared me for college is IB Physics. It was through this course that I discovered my passion for engineering. With the support and encouragement of Mrs. McGrath, I was able to challenge myself and stay committed, even when things got tough. My journey through IB Physics was filled with both highs and lows, but it was my friend Jordyn who helped me recognize just how impactful Mrs. McGrath’s teaching was. Her guidance ignited my interest in the subject. Without IB Physics, I wouldn’t have a clear understanding of the kind of work I’ll be doing in college or the direction I want to pursue." - Ziaire Hope attending Syracuse University majoring in Electrical Engineering

Furthermore, those classes were challenging to me because they consist of levels of academics that were up to the standards of college. Both classes help me to expect what's to come in college. " Edward Kwok attending St. John's University majoring in Biomedical Sciences

Whether it was through group projects, class discussions, or just learning how to manage my time better, I feel like I’ve really developed the skills I’ll need in college and beyond. SEP helped me find my voice, and that’s something I’ll always carry with me" - Brooke Knight studying Nursing at LIU (Long Island University)

"I've been most proud of my Emmaus Retreat experience during my four years at St. Edmund Prep. Every year, the Emmaus Retreat is successfully organized and coordinated by everyone who volunteers. I was able to take part this year as a retreat leader. I would say that my own Emmaus experience was life-altering in so many ways and incredibly eye-opening. As their leader, I was grateful and honored to share that same experience with the retreatants this year. The Emmaus Retreat is by far my proudest moment and one of my favorite memories from my four years at SEP." - MacKenzie Palisi attending Brooklyn College studying Communication Sciences and Disorders
"I am so grateful for the endless opportunities that St. Edmund Prep has given me during my time here. The thing I am most proud to have been apart of despite all the sports that I participate in, was my involvement with campus ministry's Emmaus retreat program. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity that not only teaches you life lessons, but also gives you a sister and brother hood that you never knew you need. I was lucky enough to attend the retreat my junior year but even luckier to have been able to lead a group of girls on my own to help encourage them on their journey to finding themselves. This experience was truly eye opening in leading me to create better relations with others and my faith. " - Sienna James attending Iona University majoring in Nursing
"Being a part of the musicals, Big Band, and Vocal Repertoire Ensemble at SEP has brought me so much joy and provided me with a healthy outlet in life. Singing is one of my favorite things in the world, and I'm lucky to have had the opportunity to grow as a singer, and a person through these activities. They have helped me to come out of my shell and allowed my creativity to blossom, as well as given me wonderful friendships and shown me how to be disciplined. I feel a lot more confident and prepared for college thanks to these experiences!" Eve Becker attending Ithaca College majoring in Writing for Film, TV, and Emerging Media
"Throughout my SEP experience, I am most proud of the way that I have found my path. Going into high school, my dream was to be an engineer, and when I realized that it may not be the field for me, I was completely lost. It was difficult to begin planning for the future, when I was unsure of what I wanted to do. Luckily, toward the end of junior year, I stumbled into a field that I loved, and I found my way again. It wouldn't have been possible without the support of the Pinnavaias, who have always been there for me to pop into their office to talk about working in sports media, or Big East basketball. I have been so fortunate to find a field and a college that I love with all of my heart, and I can't wait to see what the future holds." - Salutatorian Ryan Lily Groneman majoring in Communications at UConn
