August 2020 Athletics Update

August 19, 2020

As St. Edmund Prep prepares to return to school, I wanted to update everyone on the state of athletics. Normally around this time of the summer, we would be having our fall sport information meetings and beginning fall sports (boys soccer, girls soccer, girls volleyball, cross country track, fall baseball, fall softball, cheer, and step) tryouts and practices.

At this time, the NYSPHSAA and the CHSAA have pushed back the official start of fall sports until Monday, September 21st. As we get more guidance from NYS, more information will be posted across our social media platforms. We will still be having meetings (some remotely) in the near future.

We are currently preparing to put your child in the safest environment possible for when we do return to play. Aside from our coaches renewing their normal certifications in First Aid and CPR/AED, we are mandating that all of our coaches get certified in COVID-19 training for Coaches and Administrators. More detailed plans will be discussed at our opening meetings.

In the meantime, many of our coaches have been communicating with the student-athletes and some have been having remote workouts focusing on skills and conditioning. All of the necessary forms needed to begin in-person team workouts and activities are listed under athletics on our school website.

Some important forms to look over are the following:
• Athletic Opportunities for Freshmen Boys/Girls
NCAA Eligibility Center
Athletic Physical Form
Athletic Transfer Form
Athletic Consent Form
Student-Athlete Handbook

I look forward to seeing everyone soon and having a great school and athletic year. If you have any questions concerning athletics, feel free to email me or call the Athletics office.

Thank you,
Dan Wiatre
