Senior Class Events Postponed

Tuesday, July 7th Update:

Last week, the Governor made the decision to postpone all indoor dining indefinitely. Due to the uncertainty of when indoor dining will be allowed in the city, we have no choice but to officially cancel the prom. I am so very sorry that this milestone cannot happen.

We have not made any final decisions about the Senior Dinner. The room at the El Caribe, where the Senior dinner is scheduled to occur, is MUCH larger than the room that we would have had for the Prom at Russo’s on the Bay. Therefore, IF indoor dining is allowed, we would be able to socially distance. So we are still waiting to make this decision about whether or not we can have this event in person or if it will be virtual.

In-person graduation is still on! We are actively investigating outdoor venues. However, if we cannot secure an outdoor venue, we have reserved St. Edmund Church and will create a safe and responsible graduation.

As a reminder, the Senior dinner, whether in person or virtual, will be August 4th. Graduation will be August 7th.

We will continue to keep you updated as we continue to make decisions about the events for the Class of 2020.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

The senior events will take place as follows:

Senior Awards Dinner - August 4th (El Caribe)
Baccalaureate Mass and Commencement Exercises - August 7th (St. Edmund Church)

The decision to reschedule the senior events was made in consultation with the members of the senior class and their families, following a virtual level meeting held on Monday, April 27th. In the event that social distancing norms are not lifted by the rescheduled dates, the Senior Awards Dinner, Baccalaureate Mass, and Commencement will take place virtually.

In her video message, Mrs. McGinnis reassured the class that they will be celebrated in the best way we can. "We are making it a priority to ensure that the Class of 2020 gets every opportunity to celebrate all of their achievements. They will be given the chance to make memories that they will take with them for the rest of their life. The St. Edmund family is committed to the Class of 2020 in every way possible."

We thank the members of the Class of 2020 and their families for their cooperation and understanding during this difficult and uncertain time. We look forward to celebrating their accomplishments in the coming weeks.
