National Honor Society Inducts New Members

The inductees not only demonstrate academic excellence but also model a commitment to character, service and leadership at school and within their home communities. They received pins and certificates to signify membership in the chapter. The following seniors will serve on this year's Executive Board: Madison Daughtry (President), Emilia Sepe (Vice President), James Friscia (Treasurer), Elizabeth Riabov (Secretary) and Founel Racine (Historian). Our veteran members were also present at the induction to welcome our newest members and re-commit themselves to these core values of the National Honor Society. National Honor Society faculty advisor, Mr. Zwosta shared how our chapter’s name (Aurora) means “dawn” and reflected upon how the National Honor Society serves as a dawn of a new tomorrow filled with promise, hope and possibilities.

Ms. Serenah Nevarez '16 was recognized as this year's honorary member. The Aurora Chapter recognized her service and leadership within our school community. Our Executive Board introduced Ms. Nevarez saying "What makes Ms. Nevarez’s service so special is the impact she has on others. She has a gift for making everyone feel seen, valued, and cared for. Whether it’s taking the time to listen, offering advice, or lending a helping hand when someone needs it most, she reminds us that true service comes from compassion. Through her actions, Ms. Nevarez shows us that service isn’t about grand gestures but about the quiet, consistent ways we make life better for others."

Ms. Nevarez had an opportunity to speak with the members and concluded her reflection with the following advice to the students: "I want to leave you all with a little piece of advice: know that the only thing standing in the way of your future or goals is you. So go easy on yourselves, give yourself grace, and don’t be afraid of trying something new. Growth doesn’t come from getting everything right; it comes from being brave enough to start it and to keep moving forward." Ms. Nevarez was presented with a plaque displaying her honorary membership.

The National Honor Society will continue to assist other students with their studies through peer tutoring and participate in community service. We look forward to a productive and enjoyable year.
