Admissions Procedures

Grade 9 - Entering from St. Edmund Elementary School

Eighth grade students who are seeking admission into St. Edmund Prep, have a guaranteed acceptance, without having to take the TACHS exam. All we ask is that your student completes the online Application for Admission.
 

Grade 9

Eighth grade students who are seeking admission into St. Edmund Prep must complete the following:
  1. The Test for Admission into Catholic High Schools (TACHS) with St. Edmund Prep listed as one of the student's high school choices. (SEP TACHS Code - 008)
    St. Edmund Prep will give very strong preference to students who put us as first choice, but will consider all choices.
  2. Complete the online Application for Admission
  3. Provide an official transcript from the student's current school by the December date prescribed by the Diocese of Brooklyn. (See our admissions calendar)
    Transcripts must include grades from 6th grade, 7th grade, and the beginning of the 8th grade. Students currently attending public or non-Catholic private school must request their transcript through their guidance counselor.  Catholic elementary school students will have their transcripts forwarded to SEP electronically by their current school.
  4. Provide one (1) letter of recommendation from a teacher, coach, club moderator, pastor, etc.
  5. Students who wish to apply for a scholarship, must complete a scholarship application and take the scholarship exam 
All admissions materials for the 2025-2026 school year must be submitted by Thursday, December 13, 2024
 

Interested students and their families are also encouraged to attend one of our Open Houses and or schedule a buddy day or tour to learn more about The Prep and experience a day in the life of an Eagle first hand. 

Alternative Admissions Procedures

Eighth grade students who are seeking admission into St. Edmund Prep, but were unable to sit for the Test for Admission into Catholic High Schools can still apply for the 2025-2026 school year.
 
In order to be considered for admission into the Class of 2029, those students must complete the following:
  1. Complete the online Application for Admission
  2. Provide an official transcript from the student's current school by the December date prescribed by the Diocese of Brooklyn. (See our admissions calendar)
    Transcripts must include grades from 6th grade, 7th grade, and the beginning of the 8th grade. Students currently attending public, non-Catholic private school, or Catholic elementary schools must request their transcript through their guidance counselor.
  3. Any standardized test scores from the student’s 6th grade and 7th grade year (if available)
  4. Provide one (1) letter of recommendation from a teacher, coach, club moderator, pastor, etc.
  5. Contact the Office of Admissions at [email protected] or at 718-742-6100 x5043 to acknowledge your intent to apply without the TACHS exam score.
Students who missed the TACHS must submit all admissions materials for the 2025-2026 school year must be submitted by Friday, December 13, 2024 in order to be considered for admission in mid-January. Any student who did not take the TACHS and submits admissions materials after December 13th, will be considered for admission on a rolling basis after mid-January and throughout the spring.

Students seeking to transfer into Grades 10 or 11 should contact the Admissions Office to discuss availability in the desired class year. After that contact and if space is available, the student must:

  1. Complete the online Application for Admission
  2. Submit an up-to-date transcript which includes all courses the student has taken to date and any courses the student is currently enrolled in at his/her current school.
  3. Submit a record of immunizations.
All materials will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee. Only after the principal accepts the student can he/she move on to the next step in the process. The principal is the sole arbiter in determining whether or not a transfer student will be accepted to the school.

It is the policy of St. Edmund Prep not to accept transfer students in their senior year except in very special cases where there are extenuating circumstances. The student’s parent(s) or guardian(s) must first contact the Admissions Office to discuss the situation before any other action can take place.

All international students seeking admission must first contact the Admissions Office to discuss availability in the desired class year. After that contact and if space is available, international students must: 

  1. Complete the online Application for Admission, selecting the SEP International Program
  2. Submit an up-to-date transcript which includes all courses the student has taken to date and any courses the student is currently enrolled in at his/her current school.
  3. Submit a record of immunizations.
All materials will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee. Only after the principal accepts the student can he/she move on to the next step in the process. The principal is the sole arbiter in determining whether or not an international student will be accepted to the school.

Once a student has been accepted by St. Edmund Prep, the student’s guardian and/or host family must set up an appointment with the main office to discuss the I-20 Form (Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status) process.
