Regents Diploma Requirements

The New York State Department of Education has established various pathways for the achievement of a Regents Diploma. St. Edmund Prep has always held itself and its students to higher standards than those of New York State. We have therefore determined that our students must follow a pathway which will allow them to meet New York State requirements while leaving the door open for every student to have the potential to pursue a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation once the minimum requirements have been met.

St. Edmund Prep will require all students to achieve a minimum passing score of 65 or above on the following five (5) Regent Exams:

  • One (1) Science Regent: Living Environment
  • One (1) Mathematics Regent: Integrated Algebra, Geometry, or Algebra 2/Trigonometry
  • Two (2) History Regents: Global Studies and U.S. History
  • English

Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation Requirements

At St. Edmund Prep, we strongly encourage all of our students to pursue a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation Requirements. Most colleges and universities, especially those in New York State, demonstrate a preference for students who have achieved an Advanced Regents Diploma.

In order for students to achieve an Advanced Regents Diploma, students must receive a score of 65 or better on each of the following exams.

  • Two (2) Science Regents: one (1) life science (Living Environment) and one (1) physical science (Chemistry, Physics, or Earth Science)
  • Three (3) Math Regents: Integrated Algebra, Geometry and Algebra 2/Trigonometry
  • Two (2) History Regents: Global Studies and U.S. History
  • English Regent

Alternate Pathways to New York State Graduation Requirements
If it is determined that a student, despite their best efforts, requires an alternative pathway to graduation other than that set forth above, we may consider such alternative pathways provided that student has demonstrated considerable effort to meet graduation requirements. Any student who attempts at least three (3) times to achieve a passing grade of 65 or above on a mandatory Regent Exam may request that an appeal process be initiated. If, after a review of the students’ attempts and efforts, an appeal is granted, that student may be issued a Local Diploma.
