James' journey to the United States Military Academy at West Point started last March when he was accepted to both summer leadership experiences at the United States Military Academy and the United States Naval Academy. After completing them in June, he knew for sure that his heart was set on these service academies.
He spent months dedicated to completing both applications simultaneously, training for the Candidate Fitness Assessment, and competing for a Congressional nomination from both New York Senators and his District Representative, a necessary step in order to be eligible for an appointment. Following many interviews and essay revisions, James received a nomination from Congressman Hakeem Jeffries to both USMA and USNA.
James was appointed to West Point on February 6th, which is considered very early in the admissions process. "I could not be more excited for my future as a Black Knight and an eventual member of the Long Gray Line, serving and protecting our nation as an officer in the United States Army." said James. James is pictured here with College Counselor, Mrs. Ann Coughlin and Principal, Mrs. Allison McGinnis.
On behalf of the entire St. Edmund Prep family, we congratulate James on this extraordinary accomplishment and wish him well as a member of the West Point Class of 2030!
