Real-World Design Skills for Students in Grades 10-12

Visual Arts: From Sketchbook to Studio give teens a creative experience that goes beyond the traditional art classroom. Through Teen Work Readiness, students build real-world skills through hands-on projects, creative problem-solving, collaboration, and feedback.

Taught by RISD alum Michelle Perez IL ‘20, Visual Arts: From Sketchbook to Studio 9-week online course will take you through 3 design project briefs, including magazine publication cover design, product design, and illustration.

Engage in weekly live Zoom class sessions with a dedicated peer community and participate in critical thinking and skill-building learning experiences.

Join guest speakers from relevant industries, like illustrator Franco Zacha, as they share perspectives on exhibiting work, building sustainable art-making practices, and finding your place in the creative landscape.

“My course teaches the storytelling techniques of illustration within the context of real-world illustration prompts and projects. We’ll learn the process of taking an illustration from sketchbook to final, and how to build on our ideas through the feedback we receive along the way.”

This specialty course takes place online October 3 - December 5, 2026.
