Eagles Soar into Mayor’s Cup
Congratulations to David Mei Wu '17 and Katie Sammon '17, who were selected to represent St. Edmund Prep on the CHSAA teams competing in the 2016 NYC Mayor's Cup Soccer Championships. Mei Wu is the first boy's soccer player in school history to be named to the Mayor's Cup roster, while Sammon joins Maura Bellone '14 as the only member of the Girl's squad to attain this honor. The Mayor's Cup Games took  place on Sunday November 20th at Belson Stadium on the campus of St. John's University.  The CHSAA Boys team defeated the PSAL team 2-0, while the CHSAA girls fell 4-1.

Varsity Volleyball captures their 2nd straight CHSAA Championship
Congratulations to the Girl's Varsity Volleyball Team for defeating Bishop Kearney 3-0 to capture their second consecutive CHSAA Brooklyn-Queens Championship on Saturday, November 5th. The Eagles powered through the regular season, winning all 14 league games and three playoff games.  The team lost a hard-fought City Championship game to Preston High School, but that did not detract from the team’s outstanding season.

Student-Athlete Parent Orientation Moves Online
Beginning with the Winter 2016-2017 season, there will no longer be in-person meetings for parents of student-athletes.  This information will now be available on the school’s website, through our Student-Athlete Parent Orientation Portal. All parents of students who participate in sports during the winter season (basketball, swimming, ice hockey, cheer, step, and track) are asked to complete the Student-Athlete Parent Orientation no later than December 5, 2016.

Monique Wade ’18 Selected as Recipient of Jose Rodriguez Memorial Scholarship
Jose Rodriguez, a member of the class of 2014, died tragically in 2011 after completing JV Basketball tryouts at St. Edmund.  Jose was a popular member of the St. Edmund family, having attended St. Edmund Elementary before starting his high school career.  A likeable, hard-working, and talented student who was taken from us far too soon, Jose has remained an indelible piece of SEP. Each fall, the Athletic Department selects one junior to be the recipient of a scholarship given in his memory.

At the recent Fall Sports Awards Dinner, the 2016 Jose Rodriguez Memorial Scholarship was presented to Monique Wade ’18.  A two-sport student-athlete, Monique embodies the passion and school spirit that was indicative of Jose.  She is captain of the school’s Crew team and a vital member of the Girls Tennis team.  Monique is a very involved student, participating in the Drama society, the school band, and serving on various committees.  She is also a full IB Diploma student with an overall GPA of 93.7%.  Monique is a most worthy recipient of this honor.
