SEP Takes Gavels at Harvard Model Congress

During the weekend of February 23-26, the St. Edmund Prep Model Congress team headed to Boston, Massachusetts for the third consecutive year to compete in a government simulation run by the Harvard Model Congress. Our team, which consisted of eight young men and four young women, competed against 1500 other students from schools around the nation and even a few from Eastern Europe and one school from Greece.

The students were responsible for all aspects of parliamentary procedure, bill writing, and bill enactment in their respective committees for the House and/or Senate. At the end of the four days, committee chairpersons selected honorable mentions and best delegates. The best delegates received a gavel which is engraved and extremely prestigious, as only 70 in total are given out. St. Edmund Prep Model Congress received 3 of those gavels and they were won by Chris Healy '17, Jared Rios '18, and John McCarthy '17. We also had two honorable mentions as well in Jack Harkin '20 and Vincent Carucci '17. St Edmund Prep is so proud of the entire Model Congress team in how they represented the school and themselves during this fantastic weekend!
