THE NEW ENGLAND CENTER FOR INVESTIGATIVE REPORTING:

The New England Center for Investigative Reporting, based at Boston University's College of Communication, is again offering a unique Investigative Journalism Workshop this summer.

This program, now in its eighth year, would be a perfect fit for students who are interested in journalism or writing. Nearly 165 students from 31 states and 11 countries attended last summer's workshop, and we are expecting sessions to fill up quickly for 2017.

Our three two-week workshops will begin on June 26. During each session, students participate in seminars and work alongside veteran journalism teachers and award-winning local and national journalists on investigative stories that challenge students' critical thinking and research skills. Students will live on the BU campus and gain hands-on experience to benefit them in college and beyond.

For more information about our program, visit our website and read students' reflections on their experiences at the workshop last summer. I encourage you to share this information with your students and their families.

The workshop is filling quickly, so interested students should
apply today.

An innovative program that offers a wonderful opportunity for sophomores!

The NYU School of Professional Studies (NYUSPS) High School Academy Aspire Program is a two-year college prep and mentoring program for high school students from underrepresented communities in the New York metro/tri-state area, who will be first-generation college students.

The program begins with a one-week college immersion intensive in the summer, followed by college prep workshops in the fall and spring to develop college, career, and leadership skills. Students apply as sophomores for the summer intensive and continue to attend Aspire workshops throughout high school. Successful applicants to the program must show academic improvement in high school and must be active in their local or school community.

Each student admitted into the program will receive a full scholarship that covers tuition, housing, and meals for the one-week summer intensive. All students are paired with a mentor for the duration of the program and they will have an opportunity to engage with their mentor year-round through online and in-person meetings.

This program will include workshops on:

  • The college experience and expectations
  • College options
  • College financial aid
  • College application timeline and plan
  • Resources for standardized testing
  • College essay writing

We hope that you will share this life-changing experience with your students and provide them with an invaluable pathway toward their college goals and objectives.

The deadline to apply for this unique program of study is March 13, 2017.
