Gabrielle Joseph reflects on the question, Who am I? and how her journey at St. Edmund Prep has helped her to answer that important question.

This young woman, that I am about to introduce, is both driven and committed to success in all that she does.  She is a natural leader in the classroom, on the field, and within our community.  She is always eager to learn and her academic performance is impeccable. She exudes positivity, grace and confidence in an unassuming and modest way.  She is an amazing role model for her peers and every interaction with her is one of both respect and kindness.  She has impressed me with her constant diligence and ambition which will continue to lead her down the road to success.  It is my great honor and pleasure to introduce Gabrielle Joseph.

Who am I? A question that I frequently ponder on, in hopes of soon finding the answer to. However, throughout my time in high school, I have come to realize that life is a journey of finding out who you really are. And my journey, has just begun.  Coming into Saint Edmund as a freshman, was an interesting experience. Some may have described me as a reserved, shy or a quiet person, in that I would all agree with. Sitting in the auditorium on the very first day, I was nervous. I was blessed to come into high school with a few friends from elementary school, but I was nervous that that would be it. I was fearful that I would not know how to adapt to this new environment, meet new people, and be comfortable in this new space. So, other than being with my small circle of friends, I stayed to myself. Although this was my reality, a part of me urged to be more outgoing.  I wanted to be the person that would speak to people, rather than waiting for people to speak to me. As time went on, I had found the solution to my dilemma- getting involved in school activities. Joining sports freshman year, gave me the chance to build relationships with my teammates that carried on beyond the sport. Not only did they push and support me, but they also helped boost my confidence as a player and an overall person. They reassured me that I was better than what I perceive myself to be, and that I would be fine in all that I did. Being involved in sports also granted me the opportunity to get to know many of the faculty members, who have taught me, and that I would like to thank for constantly encouraging me to strive for excellence.
From this moment on, I moved into the next three years as an individual who no longer feared being social. I learned to be comfortable in myself, and in the company of others. My newfound confidence and ambition only helped me more throughout high school, whereas I became even more involved then I already was. I joined several clubs, such as Students for Social Justice, Multicultural Club, and events, like Midnight Run, that forced me to meet new people. 
As I look back on the person I was at the start of my high school career, and see the person I am now, I am able to appreciate the growth that has come along. I became this outgoing individual, who enjoyed meeting new people, and being able to comfortably connect and be in the presence of others. I built genuine relationships, with both faculty and friends, that made my high school experience a memorable one and that I hope maintains beyond the moment I graduate.
Who am I? A question that I have yet to answer. However, my time at Saint Edmund Prep has helped me to see a glimpse of the person I am becoming, and for that I am extremely grateful and excited.
